Thrump. Thrump. Thrump.
Sousuke dropped his hand on his heart to clench the fabric of his teal shirt in a tight fist. Why would his heart start beating so quickly upon thinking about swimming with Rin again? It felt like that for a long time. The absent reminder of his heart uncomfortably squeezing in his chest like that made him focus more on that feeling aside from the music playing in his ears. A frown knitted itself over his forehead, an everlasting one. Trying to push past that heartwrenching feeling was hard, but he decided to keep himself busy by getting off the bed to walk over to his desk.
He became aware of his own breathing, his half-lidded eyes glaring daggers over the section papers scattered over his neat desk. His hands eventually came to grasp the papers in one grasp, putting them over one another before he sat down to write down a few things. Time passed him by like it was sitting on the back of a turtle, tortuously slow almost as if it was mocking him from a distance. Fingers scratching the tip of the paper, twisting it to fold it before his index scrambled to fix what cannot be fixed as the fold was imprinted upon the edge.
Not too long ago, he came across Makoto. His own thoughts already calling the boy by his first name while the other might not do the same. They were on the same page and that was the only thing that mattered. He didn't feel like making an enemy out of anyone, not anymore. It was funny, how one gets riled up after losing to someone and not before. Maybe if that burning feeling was always there, no one would want to lose. Sousuke, with no doubt, would never want to lose to anyone. That's why he practiced to be better. And being better was his shoulder's downfall.
A sigh sneaked out of his lips, pulling him back with an invisible string to the current moment. The tip of his pencil was pressed against the clean page, tainting it with a small dot. Using the eraser to wipe away the evidence of him drifting apart from the current world, Sousuke dropped the pencil down and gave up on his hope of finishing his papers. Maybe that would have to wait for another day. Or, he could finish it later with Rin. Who knew. Speaking of, he didn't make it back to the dorm yet, it might be because Sousuke came here earlier than him. He'd just have to wait for a few more minutes or perhaps even hours for the other to appear. He had nothing better to do other than waiting, honestly.

have you ever been alone in a crowded room well, i'm here with you Rin shuffled into the dorm, bleary eyes and clearly exhausted Practice had been particularly exhausting, and then he'd had to drag himself to his stupid work study. Which, normally he didn't mind but he really could have done without this shift. His muscles had been starting to ache in protest hours ago, and he was pretty sure his feet were going to actually fall off. He really wasn't a fan of land training, at least not when it was running and he'd have to be on his feet for several hours after at his placement.
The redhead yawned, dropping his bag beside his bed before pretty much flopping into it face firts. He greeted Sousuke but it was muffled against his pillow. It took him a few minutes after to get used to his surroundings, and frown over at the other. He was never really as attuned to Sousuke as he should be. He felt like he should be able to know when his friend was upset or hurting more often than he actually could but it seemed even his best friend was a sort of mystery to him. Though, he was pretty sure the most solid relationship he'd ever had in his life, as he pretty much managed to shatter his friendships with every singe person he'd come across. Though maybe that was pushing it.
"Are you doing alright?" He asked, shifting so he was laying on his side and looking over at his friend. Because he may not be able to read Sousuke very well, or maybe the more or less stoic man was just good at hiding his emotions, but he could sense something was amiss. Whatever that was he really couldn't put his finger on it, but he was pretty sure he didn't like it. He wanted his friend to be happy. Or at least happier than he'd been. Still he felt bad about being able to tell his friend was in such turmoil back in their highschool days. Maybe he really was a bad friend, or maybe he was selfish. Too focused on his own issues. Or maybe he was just oblivious. It didn't really matter what the cause was, he just wanted to get better.
In truth the issue was likely that he could barely understand what his own emotions were, everthing tended to come out in a pent up burst of emotion that was usually some sort of amalgamation between rage and despair. The thoughts of his shortcomings were shaken from his head almsot as soon as they got there, and he instead focused on his friend in front of him. "Anything I can help with?" He asked, spying the papers that were in front of the other. MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

Sousuke's attention was taken by the tired figure that stumbled into the room. A smile graced his lips, mainly keeping his eyes fixated on Rin before it disappeared from his sight, hearing his body hit the mattress, stress possibly winning over. Giving his head a light tilt, Sousuke breathed out a small laugh followed by a small shake of his head almost feeling like a scolding father rather than a friend making fun of his tired friend. "Hey." He greeted back, only grasping the end of his greeting as the first part was muffled by the pillow.
Stretching his good arm, Sousuke dropped it down with a small groan. It felt good, to be inside the warmth of his room and suddenly, everything felt better for him. Knowing that Rin was somewhere near him and not outside doing something reckless such as take a practice too far. It was just the same with Sousuke. "I'm alright, Rin." Was his friend always this worried about him? Giving a slight shake of his head, Sousuke turned on his seat to look at Rin better. He looked far too tired.
"Don't overpractice, idiot." He said in his usual calm tone, it didn't even sound like an insult. It was him trying to guide his friend to the right side so he wouldn't fall back and do the same mistake as Sousuke all over again. Casting a second glance at his papers upon hearing Rin's question. "Mm? yeah, maybe tomorrow, though. You look far too tired," he huffed before yawning too. "And me too, honestly." Rolling his shoulder back, Sousuke fixated his gaze on Rin. "Are you alright?"

have you ever been alone in a crowded room well, i'm here with you Rin nodded at the other's warning and smiled. He was pretty sure he was still in line with everything as far as his health went. He hadn't been pushing it any harder than what his trainers had outlined for him, he was pretty sure he was just finding the end of his rope. Tomorrow was a rest day so it wasn't surprising that he was tired, it was the end of a cycle. "I know, I do. it was just running today, and I really don't like it all that much, and on top of it the shift at the cafe didn't do me many favors but I have off from training tomorrow and I promise to relax." he offered, looking over at Sousuke. he knew the man worried about him he just hoped he could ease that some.
"I'm physically beat, mentally I've got some time before my brain shuts off." he said with a chuckle. He'd never been the kind of person that could get done with their day and just pass out. he wished he was, he was pretty sure he would feel a whole lot better if he could get a solid eight hours every day but he just had trouble clearing his thoughts. Every perceived misstep throughout the day attacked him from all sides. It was a matter of pushing that all away and getting to sleep and it could be tricky.
"I'm fine, more or less. Practice was brutal but it was work that put the nail in the coffin, not training." He explained. It tired him out much more, and that was probably because he had to do a ton of running around and look happy about it even though he was exhausted. Still he likes his position, especially in comparison to some of the others he could have gotten. "That and I cheated on my approved menu yesterday and I think it's coming back to bite me." He added with a small snort. Though between how good the food was, and getting to see Makoto again it was worth it. MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

I know, I do. it was just running today, and I really don't like it all that much, and on top of it the shift at the cafe didn't do me many favors but I have off from training tomorrow and I promise to relax.
Sousuke remained quiet, letting the other explain the situation. Though that concerned frown was still there, lingering on his forehead, twisting his once calm features. He didn't want the same thing to happen to Rin and he probably knew that and yet, he was pushing himself far beyond his own limits. The promise was enough to ease down that storm and Sousuke found himself slowly nodding. "Good," he replied a little grumpily, rolling the pen around with his index and thumb. His half-lidded eyes moved to meet up with Rin, watching him for a moment before he turned his attention away.
I'm physically beat, mentally I've got some time before my brain shuts off.
"Maybe you're not, but I am. I've been stuck there for hours, it's frustrating me. But, if you're not tired, you can take a look at it.." He was quick to give up on finding solutions to anything related to Maths. He could just leave it hanging there without an answer since he'd done the rest, but it would leave him with some strange feeling in his chest, one that would hurt his pride, haunting him with the fact that he couldn't fix a proper answer to write down.
I'm fine, more or less. Practice was brutal but it was work that put the nail in the coffin, not training.
He heard Rin explain, he shifted more on his seat to pay more attention to him. "I see," he murmured dryly, resting his chin on the palm of his head to fixate his gaze properly on the other without slipping. Pushing up from his seat, he stretched, moving to sit on Rin's bed with his elbows resting on his kneecaps. "As long as you enjoy the job, you gotta keep pushing for it, if you don't, then just quit." But he knew that Rin hated nothing more than quitting, so he drew his lips into a thin line soon after, knowing that the debate in that ground was useless.
That and I cheated on my approved menu yesterday and I think it's coming back to bite me.
At that, Sousuke broke into a breathless laugh. "You're definitely an idiot," he breathed after his chuckle was over, casting a look over at his friend. "You shouldn't have told me, maybe I'll spill it to them." He said while possessing a serious face before shrugging his shoulders. "I'm a good person, so I won't. Count the favors," he said jokingly, a little smile stretching over his lips. "How goes practice? Other than being tiring? Anything new with you?"

have you ever been alone in a crowded room well, i'm here with you Rin contemplated getting up look over the problems Sousuke was having but the effort going into that seemed like a lot. He would have to get up for one. He wanted to help, but Sousuke himself said it could wait until the next day. So he stayed where he was and shrugged. "We can go over it tomorrow. You'll probably get more out of me explaining it to you when you're not totally beat." He said with a hum. He liked math about as much as he liked any of his other subjects. He didn't particularly take any sort of liking or disliking to any one subject, except maybe history. It was boring no matter what country you were learning it in, that was for sure.
"Even if I wanted to quit the placement i couldn't." Rin said with a little huff. It wasn't even really his pride saying that. "I'm here on a swimming scholarship. Full ride. Work study is part of my tuition." He explained, shrugging his shoulders. It wasn't really a big deal. He'd wanted to be independent, and that way there wouldn't be any worrying about being able to put Gou through school as well. Not that his mother had ever said anything of the sort but with everything,it just didn't seem like it would be an easy thing to manage the tuition for both of them.
"Yea, yea, idiot I am. But I really didn't feel like cooking and the cafeteria didn't really have any choices that would fit, but they did have fish and chips, and I even managed to sweet talk one of the cooks into giving me some vinegar. " He siad with a small chuckle. "Besides, I ran into Makoto while I was there, and well, that was well worth the feeling kind of bad." He said with a small chuckle.
It was a moment after he referred to his childhood friend that he remembered something. He perked up, almost actually falling out of the bed out of eagerness to continue the topic. "And you would never guess what he asked me." He said, building the suspense a little, and giving the other an eyebrow wag. "He actually came out and asked me if you were, and I quote, 'getting it on with anyone' " Rin said with a small chuckle. It was too amusing not to share with the other really, and he wanted to shove them both a step into the right directions really, they deserved some happy, and if they found that together the more power to them. "It was kind of adorable really, I mean, I he was kind of a lot flustered about it. I'm pretty sure he didn't even mean to ask me, but you came up in conversation and it just sort of seemed to tumble out of his mouth." He said smiling, watching closely at his friend for a reaction. He wanted to gauge where this stood. MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY
