Personality: Sousuke is someone who would rather put his close friend before him, he's that kind of friend. He's always ready to offer help, but in his own way. He wouldn't grow different to himself just to please the others. If he's in pain, then it's his pain alone, his own problem to deal with. Which might be selfish because he'd always be happy to help and yet, he doesn't want to be helped. It's just who he is.
Sousuke is mostly an over-protective guy, he went beyond him and threatened Haru to stay away from Rin's way. He believed it was the right thing to do, simply because Haru was nothing more than a mere block in Rin's way. Like said, he has his own way of dealing with different kind of situations.
Upon reaching close to him and tearing the way past that serious expression, Sousuke is a sweet guy and a good companion to keep by your side. Thanks to his cold side, he's hardly ever irritated by a situation and rather competitive when it comes to swimming. Even when he's swimming, he's very calm and composed, giving himself freely to the water to guide him through, unable to shake off the bare fingers that pierced through his shoulder - but it was nothing serious, not right then.
Sousuke never liked confessing out loud about his pain and his suffering, which made it understandable as to why he never said anything about his injured shoulder. His determination drove his shoulder to the point of falling apart, completely. Though it was also his determination that made him keep moving forward. He's strong, which helped greatly when it came to his injury.
But, once the door closes and he's alone, he won't be able to hold his tears back. Behind shut curtains, the true pain surface, bending and breaking Sousuke's spirit completely until there was nothing left for the rest of the night, until come morning where he'd put on a rare smile and pretend as if he was not suffering. As if his shoulder was not tearing down the future he planned for so long.

History: Not all strong individuals are born from a horrifying backstory, or twisted from losses and broken promises, Sousuke wasn't and he surely was not much of a strong person, not in his eye view, at least. Carrying on a, somewhat, normal life with his parents by his side, his life immediately became better upon knowing a certain boy named Rin.
Best friends usually make lives better by just being there and that was the case with Sousuke and Rin. They carried on a good life, one that made him realize what his dream was. They went to the same school together, he even used to spend his holidays with Rin, such as New year at Rin's place, with Rin's sibling around them as well. Though all friendships need a little twist to grow stronger or disappear completely.
A certain relay with Rin made him come to the conclusion that swimming relays were not as fun as they were cracked up to be. Sousuke had his own point of view when it came to swimming as he'd rather swim all by himself than be on a team where he'd have to put his faith on someone who'd only bring the whole team down by a simple mistake. That, of course, caused conflict between the two, where Rin became angry, no surprise there.
Their friendship was strong enough to heal once again as they made up with a challenge of a 800m freestyle. When Rin transferred schools, Sousuke didn't say anything or even try to hold back Rin or get angry at him. Letters came by every day until it stopped coming all at once. The emptiness of his mailbox was haunting, it sent ghostly chills down his spine when his mind shifted gears and started to make stupid excuses as to why Rin had stopped sending letters all at once and he never said anything when a letter was certainly made a for a certain blue-eyed boy. All he did was give away the message to its real person, Haruka.
When it suddenly came to his mind, that crazy plan of swimming and working hard to build a good body and win all competitions so he could stand on the same stage as Rin, nobody was good enough to pass him over, but when his exercises started to get more rough and same as swimming with no pause, he started to sense that something was wrong with his shoulder, but he quickly dismissed that worry because it might be a familiar ache from the constant exercises in the gym and lifting weight. That was until it broke down completely under the heavy ministrations.
And that was it. Pain. Nothing less, but definitely something more as the pain could never be pushed aside without medicine and constant therapies with the doctors. Upon learning from Gou that Rin came back from Australia, his view changed completely and started to work hard in fixing his shoulder. He worked hard to hide his pain within and started to go to physical therapies every passing day.
Keeping away the trouble with his shoulder from Rin, because he knew too well that he'd cry the moment he'd say it out loud. But the swimming intensified, along with the training and the constant battle, Sousuke's shoulder started to hurt even more than usual. His teammates had already surpassed, he decided that was it for him, that his swimming line came to an end where his shoulder could no longer move to do a proper butterfly in the water. After the last match, Sousuke finally gave up on swimming, but his dream was still there - swimming with Rin again as the experience alone meant everything to him and he quickly changed his view, the one he had when he was a kid. The sight that Rin showed him was definitely worth seeing and waiting for. After graduating, Sousuke decided it was better to stay around Rin, like he always have and it was not a mistake that he was about to regret, not right now. He was there to support the other's choices and keep his feet on the ground.
