Personality:
The easiest way to explain Izanagi is to say that he's a selfish brat who can't let go when he doesn't get what he wants, because that's how a lot of people might see him. Izzy has become a little bit of an angry soul over the years, mostly due to the heart break he's experienced. However, he's good at lying to the world. When he first meets people, he often times comes off as nice. In fact, there are people he's met who still consider him to be so. Those people, however, haven't been around him quite enough, because he's known to make blatantly rude comments that he'll try to cover up with a nice tone. Inside, he's very manipulative and won't hesitate to use anyone for his own selfish wants. He's cruel hearted, having no problem saying one thing to someone's face and then saying a very different something to someone else. He will be one to gossip if you get him started, and he always has a million bad things to say about everyone. In fact, the only people he doesn't have anything bad to say anything about are the Himura's who took him in and their son, Kaoru, who was his best friend and also the cause of his heart break.
The red head has issues moving forward, his brain constantly dwelling on the past. Though he's made a choice to become a graphic designer for video games, he's not even sure if it's what he actually wants. He's so stuck in his past and everything that went wrong with Kaoru that he can't seem to move himself forward. He spends way too much time obsessively dwelling on how close they used to be and about his regrets of never telling him how he actually felt. It seems that even when he tries to move past it all, he'll have one tiny thing remind him of Kaoru, and his mind will instantly revert back.
He doesn't actually like himself and who he's let himself become over the years. Sometimes he blames his distance from Kaoru even though he put it there for his behavior, considering him the light that shines over his dark tendencies. Every time he's blabbing on about everything he hates about someone, he wants to stuff those words right back in his mouth. He just can't seem to stop himself. He feels it won't be long until he stops caring about what type of person he is all together.
History:
Izzy was never really able to know his mother, because she died during childbirth. There were a number of complications, and she was told she shouldn't have children in the first place. When she accidentally ended up pregnant, she just couldn't bring herself to give up the chance to be a mother and turn her little family of two into three. She had so many ideas about the future, during her best to avoid what she was told there was a chance her fate would be. Unfortunately, she'd never really gotten the chance to be the mother she wanted to be.
Izzy's father was a good man. He did everything he could to do right by his son as a single parent. Unfortunately, there were times when he needed help. So, he became close with his deceased wife's best friend and husband, the Himura's, who were very good people and willing to help out. The Himura's would babysit Izzy a lot since his father was working far too often, and they had a son named Kaoru that was the same age as him. That made going over there a lot of fun for little Izzy. It wasn't long before Izzy and Kaoru became best friends who were practically inseparable. Izzy was over there even when he didn't need to be just to be able to play with Kaoru.
When Izzy was about fourteen, something he'd never thought could ever happen happened. His father died. Or, rather, he was murdered. He was coming home from work one day when a group of thugs approached him and asked him for his wallet and anything else he had on him. He gave it up willingly, afraid for his life, but one of the thugs still decided it was his time to die and shot him in the chest. He died quickly, but still had plenty of time to think about his son who he was living behind.
The Himura's decided instantly that they were going to take Izzy in, having already grown attached to the boy who was always over anyways. Izzy went through some changes after loosing his father, his bright personality dimming a bit, but Kaoru stood beside him during his time of need, vowing to always be there for him no matter what. If it hadn't been for Kaoru, Izzy feels as though his depression would have continued to thicken through out the years. From then on Izzy started believing Kaoru was the light who'd saved him from his the darkness that'd threatened to completely take him over.
Living with the Himura's was easy, because anytime he'd been upset or hurt about anything, Kaoru was right across the hall in his room. Izzy became very dependent of his friend, almost to the point where the kids at school found it to be a little strange. Izzy was always hanging on Kaoru, and a lot of kids made jokes about them being lovers, but Kaoru never seemed to mind any of it. Somewhere along the lines, Izzy had actually fallen in love with his best friend. He actually enjoyed it when kids poked fun and joked like they were a couple. Unfortunately, he'd never had the courage to actually tell Kaoru such a thing. He was afraid of scaring him away and loosing him. It also would have made a hell of an awkward conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Himura considering they were kind enough to take him in. Just by having the emotions he did, he felt as though he was betraying them.
Izzy forced himself to be content with the way things were. Their odd relationship continued on until they were about seventeen, and something Izzy had never even taken into consideration had happened. One night Kaoru had crawled into Izzy's bed and put his arms around him, being as playful as he normally was, and told him he had something important to tell him. Izzy, excited as ever by Kaoru's unexpected visit into his bed, had no idea that his world was about to shatter around him from what Kaoru was about to say. Kaoru told him that one of the girl's from his homeroom had confessed to him before asking him to be her boyfriend and that Kaoru had accepted. It was in that moment that Izzy could feel his heart breaking, but he just laughed and told him how great that was for him. Kaoru fell asleep as the silent tears poured out of Izzy's eyes.
After that day, Izzy tried to distance himself from Kaoru. Everything felt different now, and he couldn't bring himself to act normally. Kaoru seemed absolutely clueless to what the problem was, and just kept asking if Izzy was alright. After a few days of moping, Kaoru tried to sit him down to have a heart to heart about what ever was bothering him, but Izzy just avoided answering any of his questions in attempt to push Kaoru as far away as he could manage. Kaoru kept trying for a long while after that, before he'd completely given up on trying to figure out what was wrong with Izzy. He couldn't understand why Izzy was suddenly pushing him away.
Izzy only really started acting clinging toward Kaoru after about the third time he'd brought his girlfriend over to the house. The first two times, he'd just hid in his room but after a while he couldn't function while thinking about how the two were in what he considered his Kaoru-territory. Izzy, in attempt to make Kaoru's girlfriend jealous, started acting like a complete asshole. He started hanging all over Kaoru around her, being as sweet as he could manage to him while being fake nice to her. He would always make sure to throw in as many stories as he could about all the fun times they'd had together in the past, just the two of them. Kaoru was happy at first, completely oblivious to what was really going on. He was just so glad that Izzy was finally paying attention to him again and not brushing him off.
This went on for a few months, and every time Kaoru came over and left the room, it was like a full on word battle between Izzy and Kaoru's girlfriend. Izzy didn't hesitate to tell her that he had a claim on Kaoru and that he was his, but the girlfriend snapped back just as hard. They were both incredibly cruel to one another. It took one mistake made by Izzy for Kaoru to realize things weren't as right as he had thought. When Kaoru tried to bring his girlfriend up to his room for the first time just to see it, Izzy assumed he was bringing her up for reasons that really didn't please him. Unable to let that happen, Izzy waited for Kaoru to step inside of his room before stepping in the door way when the girl tried to enter. He kept telling her that she wasn't allowed in a very fake playful manor, and when she'd just tried to push her way through, Izzy pushed back lightly, which the girl used to her advantage and sent herself flying to the ground to make it look like he'd pushed her over.
That was the first time that Izzy had ever really had Kaoru get angry with him. He'd yelled at him, demanding to know what his problem was. Izzy then made up a lie, saying that he saw his girlfriend with another guy. He was desperate, trying to think of anything he could do to keep what he thought was about to happen from happening. Kaoru didn't believe him, and Izzy, feeling as though he'd just lost Kaoru completely, retreated to his room to go sob about it. Kaoru then made sure his girlfriend was alright before sending her home. Upon walking back upstairs to their rooms, he heard Izzy crying behind his door and went to go hold him despite being mad at him and despite his own confusion.
After that, Izzy kept his distance. He didn't want to risk getting Kaoru's wrath again, unsure of whether he'd be able to take it a second time. He was too obsessed with his best friend, and his emotions were way too strong. Izzy hardly talked to Kaoru, believing that giving up on their friendship might be best for Kaoru. He felt like he didn't do anything but hold him back and drag him down. Kaoru's girlfriend stopped coming over completely, but Izzy never asked why assuming that Kaoru was just keeping her away from him.
When graduation finally rolled around, Izzy chose to go to The University of Tokyo to get as far away from Kaoru as he could. He knew that he'd never be able to fall out of love with his best friend, so he figured distance would at least keep him from faltering in his plans to give him as much space as he possibly could. Since being a university student, Izzy has done his best to avoid going home as much as possible. The only time he's really done so is during the holidays, but that was more for the sake of the Himura's who'd taken him in so kindly. He's been studying to become a video game graphic designer, though he's not even positive that's actually what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
