Personality:
To make up for his height, Michi has always pushed himself harder than a lot of the other students on the track team. Since their legs allow them to take such long strides, he has to focus on being able to take more steps in quicker amounts of times to make sure he can keep up. There are times when he feels discouraged, but he's never allowed himself to give up. He's too passionate about running, and feels like he's on top of the world whenever the wind is blowing through his hair. He pushes himself every single day until he's completely exhausted.
Michi has a kind heart, always willing to be friends with just about anyone. Once he's made friends with someone, he'll do almost anything for them. It's one of his biggest flaws, because he's had some pretty destructive people latch onto him in the past. Wanting to do anything to help those people, he's caused a lot of trouble for himself. His big heart always wants to do what it can for others and then some. When he fails someone, it eats him up inside.
At times, Michi can be oblivious and naive. Others who catch onto this have been known to walk all over him. It's not very hard to manipulate Michi into thinking everything is his fault. Making him nervous is far too easy, so it's not very hard to intimidate him. Even if something wasn't his fault, he'll apologize for it, willing to take the blame. He also has a tendency to be very hyperactive, getting on the nerves of others with all of his energy. He has trouble calming himself down, which he'll tend to apologize for constantly, and dwells on it later.

History:
Michi's childhood wasn't anything all that dramatic. It was normal. His family wasn’t well off or anything like that, but they were of average income. Growing up, kids seemed to like Michi for his hyperactive personality, finding it fun. However, a lot of children didn't seem to like his older brother, Kensei. Michi might have been a year behind him in school, but he definitely saw some bullying going on. Because of this, he'd gotten himself into trouble multiple times. Michi was always picking fights with older kids, trying to get them to lay off his brother since they seemed to have no real reason for picking on him. Michi wanted to protect him, but really all he ended up with was his own face in the dirt. He felt even more useless when his brother seemed to become obsessed with martial arts, having their father train him ruthlessly. The bullying on his older brother might have stopped after that, but Michi was still constantly getting himself into fights when people would instead talk about how cold and heartless his brother had become. He felt as if they hadn't really known him at all. Sticking up for Kensei had landed Michi a spot at the bottom of the food chain.
By the time middle school rolled around, things in his life seemed to shift a little bit. Most of the kids that he'd fought with started ignoring him, moving onto other things. As a result, Michi was able to breathe a little bit and focus on the type of person he wanted to be. He let his past inspire him to be kind to everyone, never wanting anyone to feel the way his brother had or the way he felt defending his brother. He changed even further when the family found out what a talent Kensei also had for swimming. Their parents were constantly praising the older one, being incredibly supportive, causing Michi to feel like he was left in the older boy's shadow. It's what originally got him to join the track team. He already had a passion for running, and trying to catch up to his brother birthed his determination. Unfortunately, he'd also lost a lot of confidence while in his brother's shadow. The boy that had been so ready to take on anyone had begun apologizing for everything that hadn't been his own fault. He was hard on himself both emotionally and physically. He began to feel like he was never going to catch up to his brother.
Feeling invisible was just something Michi ended up becoming used to the older they got. His parents seemed really into the swimming that his older brother was doing, and couldn't really care less about his track team. Since Kensei always seemed to be winning and placing extremely well, his events took priority over his own. There had been many times where their sports events had crossed over, and Michi was the one left without either of his parents to spectate. He could remember looking up to the bleachers multiple times, unable to see a single familiar face staring back down at him. He could also remember crying before events and being so nervous that he'd vomit continuously without having anyone there to comfort or support him. Still, Michi managed not to resent his brother. He only wanted to work harder to be as good at track as Kensei was at swimming.
During his last year of middle school when Michi felt he finally had a shot at victory, his parents moved, and he had to start all over. The only problem was, his parents didn't seem to stop moving. They'd moved several times for job purposes, causing Michi to join and leave team after team. Once they'd even moved in the middle of the school year, and the track team hadn't even allowed Michi to join at all. Finally, they'd moved to the small town of Iwatobi where his father opened up a dojo specializing in various martial arts. Michi still had no interest in martial arts, despite pretending to and attempting to multiple times growing up, but he was excited about it. It meant that there was less of a chance that they were going to move away once again. Michi was quick to join the track team at Iwatobi High School, and continues to train to be the fastest that he can be.
