Personality:
Hikaru is always attempting to distance himself from his emotions, coming off as apathetic at first sight. When lifting the top off of his outward appearance, anyone can tell that he's really just a very sad and lonely boy who'd never really been loved by anyone in his life. He has a very dark out look on life, one that his parents embedded into him by telling him over and over again how they'd wished he'd never been born and that they hadn't been stuck with him. He feels like the world is just a cruel place and that he doesn't actually belong in it.
Hikaru doesn't see the best in people. He normally goes straight to the bad, and if anyone appears nice, he always assumes they're hiding something. He'd never been shown much kindness, and he doesn't believe he deserves it anyway. If anyone is actually nice to him, he questions their alibi and his hesitant to accept their behavior. It's also why he's so stubborn when it comes to accepting that his uncle actually seems to care about him. Hikaru is very hard on himself, feeling that there is no possible way for a screw up like him to be of any benefit to the world. As a joke, his uncle even started referring to him as a classic emo kid.
Even though he might know right from wrong deep down, Hikaru is always entering gray areas. He's not afraid to do bad things in situations that call for it. Sometimes he even does bad things just to distract himself if he feels he's in risk of any emotions coming through and displaying themselves for others. It wouldn't be impossible for Hikaru to change and better himself in the future, but he's far too stubborn to think he's capable. He's not even sure he should bother. In current times, he's pretty much just a lost soul with no direction for his life other than down.

History:
Hikaru was born to two parents who were less than thrilled to have him. Neither of them had really wanted children, and if his mother was forced to have one, she would have wished for a girl. That's probably why she never really acknowledged the existence of her son unless she was scolding them or around other people. Though his mother paid no attention to him, his father paid far too much attention. He watched his every move, criticizing him and telling him exactly how worthless and terrible he was at everything. He would physically hurt him, threatening his life multiple times. Hikaru spent a lot of time in the hospital growing up, because of injuries given to him by his parents. His father was a bit of a psychopath, getting enjoyment out of giving his son the must screwed up punishments he could manage. All of this took effect on Hikaru's brain, making him believe that he'd be better of if he'd never existed in the first place just like his father hoped for.
To the outside world, the Oshiro's blended in very well. They were polite and very social. His mother cared far too much about superficial things to let them no anything that went on with his crazy husband and the son she really didn't want. She even played the "world's greatest mommy" role when they were out. Even when Hikaru would roll his eyes, she'd laugh it off as if he was just being a stubborn boy. They were friendly with all the neighbors, often having barbecues and block parties. Though Hikaru was pretty dead inside, he did find some weird enjoyment from going over to one set of neighbors, the Jurou family, for dinner which seemed to happen often enough. They had a son who happened to be a bit younger then him named Reisi, and even though Hikaru didn't do much talking to the boy, he always felt sort of drawn to him. It was a weird feeling that he couldn't quite explain. That boy's window was facing the window of his own bedroom, and he often found himself watching the boy when he wasn't paying attention to him. There was very little Hikaru did for entertainment, but he always found that to be calming from his at home life.
As Hikaru grew older, he continued to be the same quiet and damaged person he'd been raised to be. A lot of the kids he'd grown up with had considered him to be an emotionless zombie though none of them really knew why. His middle school years were when Hikaru began hanging around the wrong kids. They were involved in a lot of violence and crime, and although Hikaru wasn't the most active member of their little group, he was involved in quite a bit of it. Before he'd even been in high school, he'd already been arrested twice. Since he'd been causing so much trouble and grabbing the attention of the police, his parents only got harsher with him. His father got more violent, hurting him so bad sometimes that he would have to stay home from school for weeks at a time just so know one would question the injuries.
When high school rolled around, Hikaru only became colder toward the world especially after his "friends" started offering him up pain killers to help ease the crap they figured was going on in his home life. Those friends were really just the fellow gang mates in the gang he'd slipped into without even really realizing it was happening. It wasn't exactly the best thing to of happened, because in order to afford the pain killers from his "friends" he would have to steal the money from his parents or just swipe wallets off of other unsuspecting victims. The relief from the pain was worth it in his mind, and he soon found that he was incapable of not taking them.
Something that probably would have been considered a tragedy to most people happened when Hikaru was about sixteen. His parents were killed in a car crash. The odd part about the crash was that the ones driving the other car were the Jurou's, their neighbors. Both couples died, and Hikaru found himself relieved that their son Reisi wasn't with them. At the funeral, Hikaru only felt sick to his stomach as everyone cried and mourned, telling the boy how sorry they were for his loss and how he was too young to be without his parents. Hikaru felt a lot of guilt for not being able to feel much of anything at all. In fact, one of the only things that really did bother him were that his parents were involved in killing Reisi's parents. Time and time again he wanted nothing more than to apologize to Reisi for the monsters his parents were, but was unable to bring himself to do so. He was pretty sure the boy probably hated the kid of the people involved in the accident. He had only pushed down the emotions he'd felt, and to the current day he hasn't brought them up.
Hikaru's uncle moved into his house afterwards in order to take care of the boy. His uncle was a funny guy, a little unconventional in the way he went about life, but he actually seemed to care about him. Unfortunately, Hikaru was too far lost to give much of a crap about him. He was basically apathetic to the man despite the fact that he'd actually tried to make a connection.
Despite the fact that his uncle was actually a nice guy, he wasn't an idiot. He figured out exactly the type of "friends" Hikaru had, and was also very good at hiding his money so Hikaru wouldn't be able to just swipe it. Unfortunately for Hikaru, that meant he didn't have a lot of money to pay a lot of people. Some rivals of the gang he was in often even tried to get him to pay up just for running with a different group. Although his parents weren't beating him up anymore, he was getting jumped often by people he owed money too or rival groups just looking to bully someone. He was good at handling them one on one, but there was never a lot he could do against big groups. Hikaru was constantly coming home to his uncle practically beaten to a pulp, but refused to speak whenever he'd tried to get the details out of him.
Hikaru had once made the mistake of telling one of his friends about his infatuation with the boy next door, Reisi, and how he'd watched him multiple times in order to calm himself down. Unfortunately, a few short weeks later that friend had turned on him when Hikaru borrowed some money from him and wasn't able to pay it back. In order to get back at him, that friend and his other group sat outside of the neighbor boy's house with a crow bar reading to give him a little hell. Luckily, Hikaru had taken the trash out at just the right time, and spotted them all. He got into a long lasting fight which didn't end in his favor, but they'd at least left without harming the other boy. It was then that he'd vowed never to trust anyone with that kind of information again. It also caused him to pay attention to the boy next door far more often, too afraid of his past "friend" coming back and trying it all over again despite the fact that Hikaru had made sure to pay up almost immediately after, actually going to his uncle and begging him for money for the first time.
Life is still the same for Hikaru. He's ran with too many bad people over his short life time to really get himself out, but he also doesn't think he deserves to be out of his current life. He thinks his being put on the earth to begin with was just one huge mistake thanks to the convincing of his parents. He has no hope for his future and no real desire to break away from the mistakes he's made in life.
