KAZUKI MASAMUNE
Personality:
To his friends: Kazuki is a kind, accepting soul. He's always puts his friends problems and worries before his own. He is very emotionally driven and gets angry if people mock him or the people close to him. He won't let anyone push him around.
But to classmates who don't know him: he is a very distant person and he's often misunderstood by strangers. He finds comfort in solitude for the most part but he hates it when he is left alone without any friends for too long and often he will observe how people act and how they talk to find out more about the people around him.
Despite being distant he tends to be quite accepting of people as he understands that people's home lives maybe quite different to what you actually see.
When it comes to physical activities, he gives it his all and pushes himself to improve as much as he can. He doesn't let himself get discouraged when it comes to improvement. He knows his limits but sometimes pushes them as much as he can, occasionally getting hurt in the process. He likes training with other people a lot but because of his distant nature this doesn't happen very often.

History:
Ever since he was born, Kazuki has had to deal with his mother forcing her failures in life onto him. Having put up with this for so long, his middle school years were filled with rebellion against his mother. Once he decided to start doing the things he wanted to do his home life only got worse. This lead to his terrible relationship with his mother. To deal with his rebelling his mother started drinking which made her even worse to deal with for Kazuki as she is an angry drunk. His father tired to stop his mother from drinking but that only made her drink more as she felt that both her son and her husband were against her.
Throughout his middle school years things got a bit better. He made a few friends at school, his mother had somewhat calmed down (given up) and his father was supporting his love for swimming and track. But this didn't last long as rumors spread around his school about his home life. His friends stopped talking to him, he got beat up most afternoons and he eventually decided it would be a good idea if he just stopped trying to talk to people in his classes. He didn't understand why they left him but it hurt him to have his friends leave him just like that. This lead to Kazuki becoming very lonely. Because of this he put all of his spare time into swimming training and very long jogs. His mother became frustrated and fed up with him for not studying or trying as hard with his school work as he could be.
In his last year of middle school he had won 3 swimming races and he felt proud and confident enough to tell his mother that he wanted to swim professionally. His mother was completely against it and after a month of Kazuki and his father trying to persuade her she was fed up and tired of the constant nagging and she cracked. She threw a beer bottle at Kazuki, luckily it missed and went flying over his shoulder. he was terrified. What little trust he had left in his mother had vanished.
His father thought it would be better for him if Kazuki lived alone, so his father offered to pay for his living expenses. Kazuki was glad that his father was willing to help him out and accepted his offer. His apartment building is not too far away from Iwatobi so he decided to change schools too.
