The clock ticked by as if it was resting on the turtle's back, going agonizingly slow, taunting him from it stood, proud and certain of its time. Sousuke's eyes averted to it from one time to another, his chin rested on the palm of his hand, eyebrows raised and face overall lost in his thoughts. The sound of the professor echoed in his brain though none of his words made any sense to him. It felt like an eternal drag where everything barely made any sense. 'So we do know that..' That what? His mind decided to go blank after it peaked his curiosity. It prompted him to blink twice in order to snap fully out of that haze, his half-lidded eyes eventually meeting the formal appearance of the professor dressed in a suit, hand in his pocket and mouth parting and pressing, speaking his words with great sense of righteousness, it made Sousuke's eyebrow arch against its will.
It made the other look as if he was in a real court in front of the judge, speaking endless words that proved the suspect's innocence. Soon enough, he found himself thinking back about Tachibana and how quick the time between them passed. It made him feel an odd feeling where he felt a slight burn in his chest, one that he remembered in the court after the meeting with him. It was that feeling that would come crawling to him whenever his eyes would fall down on his watch to check the time for his next session, realizing how close it was and how it would be necessary for them to part away.
Eventually, the session was done and Sousuke was the last one to snap out of his thoughts by the sound of another student asking if he was alright. He stared at the other for long moments until he moved away with a stuttering 'goodbye', excusing himself to exit the place, leaving Sousuke to sink into the emptiness. Pushing up from the seat, he grabbed his notebook, the page barely touched by the tainting color of his pencil.
Soon enough, he found himself walking back to his dorm in order to take a shower and wait out until it would be time for him to meet with Makoto. Maybe he should call Rin and ask for help. Though he might get some endless teases from him. It surely would be a story to tell to Rin whenever he comes back from that .. meeting, since he said it himself that it wasn't a date. He probably shouldn't have said that..
The shower was done, clothes picked and neatly placed on his bed. Once the clock ticked three and a half, Sousuke was ready. Dressing in casual clothes, hair sticking out messily, still dripping wet from the shower he took. His skin fresh and eyes no longer tired or mouth no longer demanding to be stretched into a yawn. He felt awake, more than ever, actually. Rolling up the sleeves of his shirt, he grabbed his shoes to wear them by the door, grabbing the extra key of the dorm while Rin had one of his own, he left, clicking the door shut behind him. His watch attached to his wrist, checking time from one another, arriving before four, but it wouldn't take long for it to be four, he'd just have to wait.

you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously Concentrating in class was proving to be a hard task today. He found himself tapping his pencil against the desk, barely hearing what the professor was saying. It was strange for him, considering he was usually so stressed about making sure he wrote enough down to be able to get back to this later. He shook his head. Pay attention, Makoto. He tried to tell himself for what felt like the tenth time since he'd walked into the classroom. He had an anxious feeling that he couldn't quite shake, and he probably looked painfully obvious about wanting to get out of class considering he was pretty sure his professor was glaring at him. He was so stressed about everything lately that he couldn't believe he was allowing himself to slip up during this class period. He was just going to have to make sure to read everything the professor was talking about straight out of the text book later and then do some extra research to catch him up since he hadn't been paying enough attention. Even though it was still going to be work, he needed to do his to think positive about the fact that he could fix the problems caused by his inability to focus on class.
After his class had ended, Makoto went back to his dorm where he proceeded to wash his face. He considered hoping in the shower, but it might have seemed a little much for him considering he'd literally just taken one slightly before the class he was just in. He was thankful for that now, having no idea who he was going to run into it. Makoto changed into a button up and some light colored jeans before slipping a grey sweater on over. He considered just wearing a t-shirt, but he'd kind of had the shivers all day and he didn't want to look like he was suffering from being chilly or something ridiculous later.
He was slightly concerned that he looked like a bit of a dork when he saw himself in the mirror, and groaned. He then took off what he was wearing and switched it out for a dark t-shirt and his red plaid shirt in which he buttoned up half way before pushing up his sleeves. Even if he'd be cold, at least he wouldn't look too lame. Makoto had never felt so self conscious before.
Makoto started pacing back and forth in his dorm as he waited for the time to pass. He would have probably already left, but he didn't want to show up early in case of looking to eager. It's not a date, calm down. He reminded himself of that in his head, but realized it didn't much matter. He was still seeing Sousuke, and that thought was exciting to him even if he'd just seen him earlier. When it was finally ten minutes before four, he left out of the door.
Makoto slowly made his way to the university's interior where Sousuke had said to meet him. He was walking so slow that he'd actually gotten there just a few minutes late. Sousuke was already there in the distance looking just as dashing and cool as Makoto always felt he looked. The brunette swallowed hard, the butterflies already starting up again in his stomach as he looked the other over for a second time, suddenly unable to get enough of him it seemed. You're just hanging out, nothing to act so strange about. With that thought, he threw his hand up in the air and waved. "Sousuke!" He called out, scolding himself for using his first name already yet again even if he hadn't corrected him before. Makoto stopped walking when he was a few feet away from him and smiled, tilting his head to the side. "Hey. How was your class?" He'd decided to ask, not really sure how else he should greet him. Makoto felt like he was being weird about everything. | | 663 words | :3 |

THOUGH WE STILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT, THE MORNINGS AREN'T QUITE AS BRIGHT The wait was somewhat tolerable. His heart thumped weakly in his chest, air ruffling through his strands. His face brooding, despite the thrill of getting coffee with someone instead of going there alone, shoved knees deep into the silence and loneliness of the night. He was used to it, but meeting with Tachibana made him realize that loneliness was not the only option. He could meet people, he could accept them, let them into and through that stoic expression and blunt words, meant to push people away. It only made them think of him as nothing but a mysterious character, a missing piece dropped out of the puzzle collection. Everyone had that curiosity shoved deep within them, they either ignore it because it never played well for them and others like Makoto approached it with kindness. Honestly, he was just too nice, ready to apologize for everything. Though his nice acts were starting to backfire, crawling to come bite him in the backside. His friends parting away and the distance between them was the one to blame, Makoto shouldered all the blame so they wouldn't feel it. He knew enough about carrying the over-share of blame. He took it out with anger while Makoto hid it with sweet words and empty laughs echoing in the corner. His shoulder remained there, crushing his potential and he allowed it to. Honestly, he was scared, angry and frustrated. All at once, and yet, he hid it away to make sure he didn't throw Makoto off with his rudeness. He could feel the distant throb of his shoulder, the uselessness of his moves and the feeling of the water calling back to him. Endless nights he woke up with nightmares and also endless nights Sousuke decided not to sleep just to escape away. How much can he carry on one shoulder now? Sousuke snapped out of his thoughts upon hearing the call of his name and he was just too damn grateful Makoto appeared now or else he would have been too brooding to accept the night ahead of them. "Yo." He greeted, giving a flicker of his wrist, a poor excuse of a wave, but it was still there. The question about his class made him release a thoughtful sound, trying to recall what he heard about it. Absolutely nothing. "It was good," he lied, though it was nothing but a white lie. Shifting his stance, he kept his hands in his pockets, his face a little stoic due to what he'd been thinking about a few minutes ago. "What about your class?" Sousuke questioned, throwing back the question to the boy. His eyes skimmed up and down, taking in the full frame of the boy before his staring could be considered as rude. you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously It was good.
Makoto smiled at that, happy to hear that it must have not been dreadfully boring or something. Though Makoto could read Haru's thoughts with ease, he was having a lot of trouble picking up on Sousuke. Even Nagisa and Rei were pretty easy when it came to getting inside of their heads. Sousuke reminded Makoto of Rin in that way. He just couldn't catch onto them. Maybe it was because he hadn't really spent a ton of time with either. There had been times when he felt like he was getting that close connection with Rin, but unfortunately, that never seemed to last. He was still a very good friend to Makoto, but he just seemed a little too preoccupied to make much time for anyone but Haru. Well, that undoubtedly included Sousuke now that Makoto really thought about it. "That's good, I'm glad."
What about your class?
Makoto chuckled a bit nervously. "Honestly, I couldn't really focus." His nervous tick with scratching the back of his head was activated and Makoto looked away for a moment though a light smile still stayed on his lips. He wondered if maybe he shouldn't have said that, finding himself to be uncharacteristically self-conscious around Sousuke. He'd questioned his moves and actions more times around him already then he felt himself do in a long while.
Still, it was nice to feel the way he was feeling. It was a break from the pull of the loneliness college life had been bringing for him. It was a weight that was getting far too heavy, but he was feeling it so much less in the other's presence. He hadn't had a real conversation like he'd had in the hall with Sousuke since he'd gotten here.
Makoto looked back at Sousuke, smile still unwavering. "Thanks for, uhh," he hesitated as he'd tried to find the right word again since Sousuke didn't want this to be a date. "Hanging out with me." That was a good way to put it, and hopefully it wouldn't make the other too uncomfortable. With a slight shrug of his shoulders, he spoke again. "Well, shall we go?" | | 360 words | :3 |

THOUGH WE STILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT, THE MORNINGS AREN'T QUITE AS BRIGHT That's good, I'm glad.Again with the lively aura bubbling around him. He looked like a God of happiness if that crap even existed, his happiness can be extended to others, it can draw people in and never dare to push them away. Just like many others, Sousuke was being slowly pulled into it. Any other day with a bad mood swing, he'd find that completely irritating. Speeding up the progress of his thoughts, Sousuke stepped over the long river of endless thoughts, screaming for his attention. He wanted to know what can happiness do to others if the real source of it was a sad person. Surely it did not make sense, but some people sacrificed their own emotions for the good of others. For seeing that flicker of a grin pass by their lips, a small visitor that would not stay there for long. Sousuke knew that he'd regret thinking of Makoto that way later upon getting to know him more. Honestly, I couldn't really focus. He was definitely more honest than Sousuke. The soft breeze washed them by, eyes narrowing more, making him seem as if he was merely closing his eyes. A hand came up to pinch the bridge of his nose, offering a quick jerk of his head. A nod. "Mm? Why's that?" He questioned, playing the saint in the conversation who barely knew what he'd done before leaving Makoto to enter his class, leaving only coldness behind. That's why he was the first to leave, to try and brush that feeling off his shoulders. Thanks for, uhh, Hanging out with me.Who even thanked people for hanging out with them anymore? A quick arch of his eyebrow questioned the other's kindness for a moment or two, unable to find the correct words to say in exchange. He wasn't used to that much kindness, don't get him wrong, Rin was nice, but when his kindness competed with Makoto's, he knew who'd win. Scratching the back of his neck with his hand, he nodded his head. "You too," he said, wincing at how dull his words sounded like. But if Makoto was accustomed to him, he'd grow used to his words. Well, shall we go?Blinking to look around him with his teal eyes, he noticed that they stood still in front of the front gate of the University. Taking the first step forward, casually keeping his hands in the warmth of his pockets, he offered a light nod. "Yeah, let's go." He said, voice growing rather soft, though he still looked brooding. It took him a bit to grew used to the person next to him, even if he knew him or not, his face would remain stoic for just a few moments before the other would say something that would bring a smile upon his lips. Though he only laughed with people he grew used to. Such as Rin. Also, that's why he barely shared a laugh with Aiichiro and the other who looked like a carrot. Mind going through circles, gears shifting and mouth left parted slowly. Snapping out of his haze to mind the path ahead of him as he walked. The coffee shop, Starbucks, was just around the corner, so thankfully, they wouldn't have to walk a lot. "So." He suddenly snapped the silence into a half with his word, giving a side glance to the other. "Rin only said a few things about you guys, or maybe I was the one not listening. you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously Mm? Why's that?
That nervous tick was back and Makoto was already scratching the back of his head. "Well, you know," he looked at him curiously, suddenly realizing that maybe he wouldn't know. That meant that he had to tell him. Now he was feeling flustered, but nevertheless, he pushed the words out. "I was excited to see you again." It was such a simple thing, and he really felt like a dork for saying them, but he couldn't just not answer. And he wouldn't lie either.
You too.
He looked over to see Sousuke wincing as he said it, and Makoto wondered if perhaps maybe he didn't mean it. He quickly looked down at the ground, trying to process his thoughts. Is he regretting this entire thing? Maybe Sousuke had just invited him out in the first place to be nice. Maybe he hadn't expected Makoto to accept. The brunette pressed his lips together, wanting to say something to offer Sousuke a way out if he really wanted one. Sadly, he mind came up blank. No worries, I'll just excuse myself early if he looks too unhappy later. It wasn't really what he wanted to do, but he really didn't want to make Sousuke unhappy.
Yeah, let's go.
Makoto smiled, beginning to walk right after Sousuke did. He was still feeling rather nervous, getting that feeling where he was almost uncomfortable in his own skin, but he tried to push it away. This was too exciting for him, and he wasn't going to let his discomfort ruin it.
So. Rin only said a few things about you guys, or maybe I was the one not listening. Mind telling me a bit about yourself?
Makoto smiled up at him while he walked next to him. "Okay, sure. Ummm..." He looked ahead of him, trying to figure out what was appropriate to tell him. "I swim the backstroke." His right eye began to twitch. He already knows that you dummy. "And I, um... Oh! I have two younger siblings. Twins. Both sweet kids, but also kind of annoying. I also really like... cats." Okay, so now Makoto just felt like he was writing some type of please date me profile for Sousuke and it felt really lame on his part. However, if he wasn't doing this, he already knew the conversation would have probably been shifted back toward his friends, because Makoto seemed to do a lot of talking about them whenever someone asked a question about him directly. "Uhhh, what would you like to know?" He decided to just ask, clearly failing at such a simple question. "Or, rather, you could tell me about you?" He asked with hope in his voice as he continued to look straight ahead, feeling like he was just going to be denied. He figured he might as well give it a try. | | 478 words | :3 |

THOUGH WE STILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT, THE MORNINGS AREN'T QUITE AS BRIGHT I was excited to see you again. He asked that question without really waiting for a respond out of him. He'd asked a question fearing the mere thought of hearing an answer that would shatter his resistance to just allow the other right in. Back in the college, he spoke freely about his shoulder and not being done with swimming. Even though he'd discarded that thought way back, he'd faced hesitation and many tears by Rin, but he knew the therapists and the way they said his shoulder was beyond repair. His teal eyes carried enough emotions that it made it look blank. He was afraid of telling Rin that the thought of swimming with him again would be way too far than they'd actually thought. "That's nice of you," he complimented lightly, taking in the small silence between the two of them, using it as some sort of sick escape. Thinking about them hanging out before stepping out of his dorm seemed appealing and a lot of questions crossed his mind, but when it came to finally having that happen, Sousuke ran dry and out of questions. It all just felt foreign to him. He wanted to speak out a few questions that would make the night good for them both so he would head back with no regrets clouding his thoughts. Then his expression dropped as if he'd just killed a puppy in front of him. Blinking a few times, he noticed that his expression had been stuck like that for a while. It was something he got used to, though. One that he seemed to wear when he met new people, it only came off when he was speaking with Rin. Something he wished to change so maybe he would gain a few friends, but he grew accustomed to having just one friend. I swim the backstroke. At that, Sousuke released a small scoff. Though it was a good start. He turned his head so his teal eyes could take in the soft features of Makoto's face. "Oh really now? I never knew," he said rather jokingly, stepping out rather slowly from his brooding mood. He waited patiently for the other to gather his thoughts and speak them out with enough calmness that wouldn't make him stutter or say something wrong. And I, um... Oh! I have two younger siblings. Twins. Both sweet kids, but also kind of annoying. I also really like... cats. Uhhh, what would you like to know?He nodded his head, letting the other know he was following and listening to his words with great interest. He released a breathless laugh, one that made him sound like he choked on air, at how he described his siblings. Good start, really. He wasn't judging him. It was better than silence and it surely helped Sousuke learn more about him. "Nothing in particular, just want to know about you. Whatever you're comfortable with sharing with a complete stranger," Or, rather, you could tell me about you?Humming thoughtfully, he took a small moment to squeeze out a few words. "I don't have siblings. I've always been a lonely kid but then I met Rin and Kou. You know them and how they're like. They really made my life mean something, I guess." Sousuke stated rather calmly, giving a quick shrug of his shoulders. "Oh, and single and ready to mingle, the profile doesn't mean much without that," yeah, it definitely sounded like they're making a dating profile and hoping to be picked out. you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously That's nice of you.
Did he mean that? Makoto glanced up at his face every time he felt there was a chance he wasn't looking anywhere near him, not wanting to be too awkward. Sousuke was completely unreadable to him, and he wasn't sure if the things he was saying were okay or uninteresting or just plain weird. It was so easy with Haru and the others to say the right things, but he wasn't sure how to go about things with someone as new and as different as Sousuke.
Oh really now? I never knew.
Makoto couldn't help the nervous chuckle from coming out, still in disbelief that he'd actually made a comment like that. If he was lucky, it might be something that Sousuke would forget about later. If he was lucky at least. He wasn't even sure if Sousuke was the type for long term teasing. He really knew nothing about him, and Makoto's curiosity was still very much intrigued even if he was feeling rather un-brilliant himself in the moment.
As Makoto had continued to speak about himself, he made Sousuke laugh in a way that he was a bit unsure of. Still, he decided to just smile. Maybe that at least meant he wasn't boring him.
Nothing in particular, just want to know about you. Whatever you're comfortable with sharing with a complete stranger.
Makoto nodded. That made plenty of sense, though he still wasn't entirely sure what to say to him. It was appearing that this non-date hanging out with someone new thing really wasn't his forte. "You're not a complete stranger." Makoto chuckled. "This is our second time actually having a conversation, and you knew enough about me to know what stroke I swim." He nudged him lightly in the side, a gesture he was unsure if he was allowed to do, but decided to went for it anyways. He really just wanted to stop being awkward, and was hoping he wouldn't make it worse.
I don't have siblings. I've always been a lonely kid but then I met Rin and Kou. You know them and how they're like. They really made my life mean something, I guess. Oh, and single and ready to mingle, the profile doesn't mean much without that.
Makoto couldn't help but laugh at the last part, even if the first part wasn't humorous. "So I'm not the only one who felt like they were writing a dating profile?" He scratch the back of his head, noting that he really needed to stop doing that. "Not that I'm trying to date you or anything," he quickly added before really thinking about it. "Not that I don't want to." Why was he admitting it? He shook his head. "Because I don't want you to think I'm getting my hopes up about you asking me out after what you'd said at the school." He just couldn't stop. "Or to have you feel pressured or anything like that." Honestly, who are you even right now, Makoto? "You know what, just forget I said anything." He shook his head wondering what he was doing right now. Way to make things weird.
He enjoyed learning about him, but something continued to tug at his heart. As he spoke about Rin, he couldn't help but wonder if maybe this whole thing was a little pointless. If they did spend more time together and potential get close, this was going to be another person in which Makoto couldn't live up to Rin's standards in his eyes. Just like Haru. It was stupid to be thinking about such a thing and to let it bother him at all, but part of him just couldn't help it. Rin had Haru and Sousuke seemingly captivated by him. Makoto shoved no blame on anyone, because Rin was an amazing guy, but he still wondered if there would ever be a day when someone would seemingly put as much thought into him as a person as Haru and Sousuke seemed to put into Rin. "But yeah, Rin definitely has that effect on people." He looked straight ahead, working on making sure he didn't reflect anything to make things awkward in that statement. "And Gou really helped hold our little swim team together back at Iwatobi. Those two are like power siblings. When they're around, they make a statement." He laughed lightly. | | 730 words | Let me know if this post is okay enough for you. ;-; I feel like there is something wrong with it, because I'm having such an off day. ;-; I'm sorry, Ash! |

THOUGH WE STILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT, THE MORNINGS AREN'T QUITE AS BRIGHT So I'm not the only one who felt like they were writing a dating profile?Sousuke released a breathless laugh at that, giving a slight shake of his head. "You're definitely not the only one," he informed him before letting his teal eyes drift away to small crowd of people passing them by. Everyone carried their own destiny on their shoulders as they took a step closer to their destination, and Sousuke felt as if his own destiny had been erased, all thanks to his messed up shoulder. He wanted to go back and fix it, stop himself from practicing way beyond his limit, to stop before his shoulder would start aching. He should've known better, he should've known that the very ache he felt was nothing more but a head warning for Sousuke to simply stop, swimming like anyone else would no longer carry a meaning for him. If he can't swim competitively and with Rin, then swimming would be useless to him. Not that I'm trying to date you or anything, Not that I don't want to. Because I don't want you to think I'm getting my hopes up about you asking me out after what you'd said at the school.Honestly, he never saw that babbling side of Makoto. One that was never satisfied with what he'd said before and decided to work it up, or maybe mess it up even more. Sousuke found himself raising his eyebrows, amused by the stuttering and nowhere near upset about it. He found it rather amusing, really. He wanted him to be .. free to say whatever he wanted to say. "Hmm?" He released a sound, much to his dismay as he wanted nothing more but to listen to Makoto babble his heart out through a little speech. Or to have you feel pressured or anything like that. You know what, just forget I said anything. "I'm not pressured, Makoto. Really." He answered honestly, "plus, who'd be able to forget that?" Sousuke teased lightly, trying not to press too hard. Picking out on someone's babble would be like rubbing salt on a wound, painful to the other and just outright tasteless to the one who picked on it. He started to feel better, that was for sure. The night was only beginning and Sousuke was starting to feel better, he could only imagine how he'd feel around the end of it. But yeah, Rin definitely has that effect on people.Sousuke's expression remained neutral from his end, trying to figure out Makoto by his words and statements. But it was like solving a puzzle with many missing pieces. He had to sit tight and just collect everything calmly. "Maybe he does," he hummed thoughtfully, deciding it would be better to stop talking about Rin, maybe Makoto's friendship with him wasn't strong enough and they surely didn't go out to talk about friendship. They went out to get to know one another and get some tasteless coffee. Speaking of which, he could finally see the coffee shop, the smell of it was dragging him forward and he approached it with no resistance. And Gou really helped hold our little swim team together back at Iwatobi. Those two are like power siblings. When they're around, they make a statement."Do they now?" Sousuke asked, quirking an eyebrow. His hands shoved casually into his pockets until his hand decided to come up and run through his already messy hair. "I wanna ask for some details that can bring the dating profile to life," he stated calmly, it didn't even sound like a joke when he spoke like that. "But, that'll have to wait until we get there and get our coffee," Sousuke looked over his shoulder at the other with a curious look plastered over his face. "You know, you get a dreamy look on your face whenever you talk about swimming, I realized that earlier. It's nice to see that look, actually." Sousuke missed that look on his own face, he missed his laughs of victory upon winning. He missed a lot of things.. "It makes me wonder why swimming became such an obsession.." He muttered to himself with a light frown taking over before he released a light sigh, snapping out of it before he could fall deeper into his own thoughts. [attr="class","gotta11"] PHARAOH LEAP. you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously You're definitely not the only one.
Makoto smiled at that. It was good to know, and he found it amusing that Sousuke felt that way about it. Since he couldn't read Sousuke, it felt like a boost to make him feel just a tad bit less awkward about this.
Hmm?
He was going to start scratching the back of his head until his hair fell out at this point. He was going to continue correcting himself and changing the words until he said something he'd actually be comfortable with, but there wasn't any point. It'd be useless, because he'd already babbled out way to much fail.
I'm not pressured, Makoto. Really. Plus, who'd be able to forget that?
He was glad he wasn't pressuring him by his words, and Makoto wanted nothing more then to be able to relax a little. Sousuke made him nervous in a way he wasn't entirely used to, but maybe if he got to be around him more, he'd be able to calm his nerves a little bit. He just wasn't used to him yet, and he just had to be in his presence more before he stopped acting so awkward. His cheeks turned slightly pink at the second part of what he'd said. "What do you mean?" He asked, wondering if that was more of a question he wasn't supposed to say anything to, but still feeling the want for a little more explanation. He figured he was most likely just teasing him, but it registered in his scrambled mind a little bit too late.
Do they now?
Makoto nodded, sure about his own statement concerning the Matsuoka siblings. Maybe he was a little too confident when it came to talking about other people. He spoke much more easily and freely then when he was talking about himself at least. Makoto smiled as he watched Sousuke run his hands through his hair, noting again just how tall and handsome he was, but his eye started twitching and he dropped his green eyes to the ground when he noticed he might have been staring a little bit. What are you doing, Makoto?
I wanna ask for some details that can bring the dating profile to life. But, that'll have to wait until we get there and get our coffee.
Makoto nodded, still looking at the ground, only bringing his eyes up to look up ahead where the coffee shop was now visible. They were so close, and Makoto was beginning to feel a little bit more nervous, but he tried to shove that off with a small smile on his face. It was just coffee. You don't have to be nervous about coffee. He tried to inform himself. He'd gotten this far with Sousuke, and he didn't seem to be ditching him just yet. Though, he was sure after talking to Sousuke, even if he did want to leave, he'd at least be nice about it. Sure, he looked intimidating, but Makoto definitely saw the kindness in him.
You know, you get a dreamy look on your face whenever you talk about swimming, I realized that earlier. It's nice to see that look, actually.
Makoto couldn't help but smile sadly at that, knowing about Sousuke's shoulder. It felt cruel to speak about swimming like he did, and he'd honestly wish he would have avoided the subject a little. It was just hard when that's how he made most of his bonds. Hell, if it hadn't been for swimming and meeting Rin because of swimming, he wouldn't even have been around Sousuke. "Swimming.... in a way, is my whole life." He felt guilty admitting that knowing that it had probably been Sousuke's too even if he couldn't swim like he deserved to anymore. "I've always been drawn to. It's what connects me the strongest to all of my friends. I don't know what would have happened if we hadn't made a swim club during high school." He probably still would have been hanging around Haru, but would Nagisa had stayed? They probably wouldn't have even become friends with Rei. That would have been such a shame to of missed out on. "Even though I'm not competing anymore, my career path still leads to the water. And I still hope to keep swimming with my friends, even if it's just for fun." He chuckled lightly, hand rubbing the back of his neck, embarrassed by going off on his little tangent. He looked up at Sousuke with a sheepish smile. "Who knows, maybe one day we'll even swim together. I definitely can't guarantee it'll be the same as getting to swim with Rin, because it won't be, but it still sounds like a nice thought to me."
Makoto looked back in front of him, realizing he'd talked so much they had basically made it to their destination.

THOUGH WE STILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT, THE MORNINGS AREN'T QUITE AS BRIGHT What do you mean? What kind of question was that, really? Sousuke gave him a small look, trying to figure out if Makoto was really waiting for an answer. "Mm? Nothing really," he waved off nonchalantly, deciding it was better for his statement to hang in there in the air without a big explanation following it dryly everywhere. Perhaps if he explained, it would make things awkward between them and he wasn't ready for that sort of aura being dragged after them almost everywhere. Allowing his gaze to settle forward instead of the green-eyed boy, he started to memorize the area around them, knowing exactly how easily he could get lost in an area he'd never been in before. It seemed as if Makoto was trying to pinpoint the difference between each tile on the ground, he was clearly paying more attention to the ground than anything else. Was it really his fault? Did his earlier statement cause an off vibe to raise in his heart? Instead of pointing that out, he just kept his eyes on the other, seeing a few details of Makoto, such as his hair and the nape of his neck, sun-kissed skin reflected by the light for Sousuke's eyes to drink in. His teal eyes snapped elsewhere, the only thought gracefully stuck in his head was that Makoto looked rather good that it took his attention for a few minutes which never happened, judging by how he was usually surrounded by boys only in their swimwear, but none of them lingered in his head like Makoto did. Makoto was really doubting himself and his abilities, often comparing himself to Rin, though they were both very different in their own ways. Sousuke wouldn't agree with that easily, about how Makoto constantly destroyed his self-worth. It made a small frown curl on his forehead, he wanted to grasp the other's shoulder and just tell him to stop doing that. It was rather irritating and sad. But, judging by their distance and how they've only met one another, his words wouldn't mean anything to Makoto. Granted, he'd listen, but he wouldn't listen very well. Swimming.... in a way, is my whole life. I've always been drawn to. It's what connects me the strongest to all of my friends. I don't know what would have happened if we hadn't made a swim club during high school. Even though I'm not competing anymore, my career path still leads to the water. And I still hope to keep swimming with my friends, even if it's just for fun. Who knows, maybe one day we'll even swim together. I definitely can't guarantee it'll be the same as getting to swim with Rin, because it won't be, but it still sounds like a nice thought to me.The other was really passionate about swimming and that's what made him.. Him, as odd as that sounds. He gave a slow nod, swallowing in Makoto's words like a happy pill. His words reminded him of himself, or maybe of Rin. Then again, Makoto spoke of Rin and how it wouldn't be the same as swimming with the other. He was about to comment on that before the bright light of the coffee shop tore into his eyes with sharp daggers. Turning his gaze forward, he reached forward for the handle once he was at a safe distance between him and the door, so he wouldn't stretch his arm painfully to draw it open, allowing the other to slip inside before him. Sousuke went inside soon after, leaving the handle to let the door close by itself. "There," he jerked his chin toward the table in the corner with two seats. He approached it and took a seat, leaning back to rest. "I'm not against swimming with you, Makoto." When did they start calling each other by their first name again? He can't really remember. "But you're very different from Rin, okay? Not in a bad way, don't get me wrong. You two swim different styles. It won't be the same, yes. Maybe because you're different. You are .. you and Rin is.. Rin, if that makes any sense. My point is-" his sentence was cut off by the sudden presence of the barista coming over to write down their orders. "I'll have a cup of coffee, black, and no sugar." He ordered, taking it upon himself to speak first and then drew his attention to Makoto. [attr="class","gotta11"] PHARAOH LEAP. you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully

Makoto blinked a few times, but he brushed it off and let a small smile take over his face. He supposed regardless, he was glad that Sousuke wouldn't be able to forget something he'd said, coming to the conclusion that's what he meant. Makoto wondered if Sousuke would be weirded out by the fact that he was sure he'd be repeating everything Sousuke happened to say over again in his mind later. His voice was just one that drew him in, and he was really enjoying being in his presence.
The brunette's cheeks tinted red when Sousuke held the door open for him, and he gladly went through it. It probably was just some type of habit for Sousuke, but Makoto liked to pretend it was a simple, sweet gesture.
There.
Makoto looked over at the table in the corner that Sousuke gestured to. He wouldn't have usually gone for such a spot, but he kind of liked it seemed like it would be a little more closed off than anywhere else. It'd feel more secluded that way, better for one on one time. He felt slightly nervous, but it was probably because he was just over thinking everything again. He took a seat in the chair Sousuke didn't occupy and sat a little tensely though he tried to make himself come off as relaxed as possible.
I'm not against swimming with you, Makoto. But you're very different from Rin, okay? Not in a bad way, don't get me wrong. You two swim different styles. It won't be the same, yes. Maybe because you're different. You are .. you and Rin is.. Rin, if that makes any sense. My point is-
Makoto was really sunk into his words and what was going to come next, but Sousuke's speaking was interrupted by the barista. Sousuke gave his order, and Makoto smiled up at the person. "Just coffee, one creamer, two sugars." Makoto held up two fingers. "Thank you."
When the barista walked away, he turned his attention back to Sousuke. He took in the color of his eyes once more, but did his best not to let his gaze linger. "You were saying?" He decided to be bold and ask, his curiosity getting the best of him.
He leaned forward a bit, resting his elbow on the table and his chin inside of his hand trying to make sure he looked interested enough while still looking casual about it. He was over-thinking all of his movements, and he really wished he could've stopped. Unfortunately he wasn't sure he'd be able to. He wanted to make sure he didn't say anything else too off-putting.

For the first time, he felt like such a coward for using the excuse of the barista interrupting his speech to make it seem as if he had forgotten what they were talking about just a few moments before. “Eh?" he asked, sheepishly raising his hand to rest it on the side of his neck, giving it a few scratches with his blunt nails. "Sorry, I don't remember." Perhaps he was a coward and selfish man for lying about such a thing when it could've caused Makoto to feel okay, not necessarily happy or shoulder-free from guilt or whatever was going on inside his head.
The chin on his palm, the overall interest in his eyes made him struggle with keeping the clueless facade. He knew he would not be able to keep it up for long, especially not around someone like Makoto. Was he beginning to create a soft spot for the other? Surely it would not be exchanged. Shaking his head, Sousuke threaded his fingers through his hair, causing each hair to stand individually.
"I'll make sure to tell you if It comes back to me," he lied through his teeth again, giving a quick smile. "Meanwhile, we can chat about whatever, I want you to be open with me, yeah? Ask whatever you want, If It's a question I don't feel like answering, I'll be sure to tell ya. Deal?"

you're a real-life fantasy but you're moving so carefully
let's start living dangerously Makoto couldn't help the small frown from creeping up on his face when Sousuke said he couldn't remember. Immediately after, however, he felt guilty about it being there and replaced it with a small smile. "That's alright," he responded, tilting his head slightly to the side. He was so curious about where he was going with that, but he didn't want to pry it out of him. That just wasn't like the brunette.
The threading of Sousuke's fingers through his own dark hair was something that didn't go unnoticed by Makoto. It caused him to pay even more attention to just how attractive the other way. He was downright sexy, actually, and Makoto felt a light blush come to his face that he did his best to dismiss before it'd be noticed. Those thoughts had a way of creeping up on him, immediately kicking his nervousness into gear. He was tall and mysterious, so it was hard not to let him mind go there every once in a while.
Makoto nodded, not exactly catching the first thing he spoke again. His mind was too distracted, but he shook it off. It was so rude not to pay attention especially when it felt like such a rare thing to get Sousuke speaking to him like this. Hell, he'd never even imagined there'd be a day where he'd get coffee with the other swimmer. This was all such unknown territory. Makoto nodded again, catching the last part. "Okay. Deal," he did his attempt at a sly smile as he tried to think of something to actually ask him. "What caused you to get into swimming in the first place?" Really, Makoto? You can ask him anything in the world, and you're already back to swimming?! He felt like he was wasting an opportunity.
