It had taken him a week to settle into his new life in Iwatobi with his new adopted family. Even that was strange; it was hard for him to be part of such a close family. The way they carried on and went about their lives and how they made sure he was a part of it all. The Aizawa’s had a daughter who just turned 18 and was getting ready for college while their second daughter had just turned nine. Then of course there was Koi, how he missed him but he couldn’t show that much emotion to the one he had loved not wanting to ruin the family’s memory of their oldest and only son. During that week where he was settling in, he had turned to helping out in the restaurant’s kitchen, helping out the chef and pretty much impressing the family with his skills. Even though his biological father had made sure growing up there was someone always there to cook his meals, Aki would refuse to eat anything prepared for him and would go about cooking his own food. It was a way to rebel against everything that man had in place for him.
The hardest part about living with the Aizawa’s was the dinner time meal where everyone came together to share time together and talk about their days and things like that. He sat there quietly, barely touching his food and always felt so uncomfortable. But as time went on, he started to open up to them a little bit at time. After the week went by, Miki the mother urged him to go back to school and told him it was part of the condition with staying with them. He tried to talk her out of it and let him go back at the start of next year but she would hear none of it.
So he found himself being the weird kid who was transferring in at the strangest time of the year with summer vacation not too far along. It was rough being back in school even more so seeing how he had been private tutored for the last two years and barely having gone to school before then. Not too many fellow students approached him since the morning and the final bell for the day had gone off. Most of the students rushing off to their clubs, to hang out with friends or just to head home… but he found himself besides the outdoor pool.
Aki had taken a seat on the ground along the fence, his amber eyes just staring at the clear water, thinking back to his last event. Another one where he had come in first, just adding to the long list of titles and awards. Before that event there had been a photo shoot and interview with some sports magazine… He wondered if anyone cared that he just vanished off the face of the earth, if anyone even noticed. Then again he was suppose to take part in the AAU Junior Olympic Games that summer but then the car accident happened and he vanished. He didn’t even bother looking into things in the swim world after he got out of the hospital and started with his recovery.
Now he just found himself staring at the water wondering if he had what it took anymore or if he could even still swim. It was painful thinking about it, let alone being near a pool again. He was so lost in his thoughts, that time slipped away from as well as the world around him. Unaware that anyone was near by or if anything was going on around him. Without even thinking about it, he was rubbing his bad knee as he sat there by the pool. His short red hair, moving slightly as a breeze came through the area.

How'd we drift so far away from where we left off yesterday?
I'm lonely like a castaway Being in college was still proving to be quite rough as far as Makoto was concerned, and it had literally only just begun. He'd been there maybe a few days now. Going from a small town into a large city all by himself was stressful, but he was hiding it from everyone well. At least, he thought he was. Makoto felt he'd mastered the art of looking perfectly okay to everyone on the outside even when it was kind of a lie. He hated concerning his friends, so currently he was just sort of bottling everything up inside. He was hardly feeling like himself anymore, but he felt he was putting on a good show at least. The only person who ever really seemed to be able to tell when something was really wrong with him was Haru. The fact that his schedule was keeping him apart from his best friend since school started made it so that he didn't have to lie about his mood very often. Him having no time to pick up on any of it was probably the only good thing about their lack of time spent together.
With all the recent stress, Makoto felt he'd needed to get away from the university already and find something familiar. His friends were all busy, but that didn't seem to stop him from getting on a train and seeking out some place familiar. He really just needed to escape, even if it was just for a short time. When he'd first left school, he wasn't even really sure where he was going. Oddly enough, he ended up at another school. His old high school. High school held some of the best times in his life so far, so it wasn't that strange that it'd be the place he'd end up at when seeking out comfort.
After arriving at the school, something in his mind shifted and suddenly he wasn't wandering anymore. He knew exactly where he wanted to be. With that knowledge, Makoto headed toward the swimming pool. He'd spent a lot of time there with his swim club, and he definitely missed that now. He'd never been too fond of having to compete, but he never took for granted a moment that he got to spend just swimming with his friends. He considered Rei and Nagisa lucky to not have graduated yet. Those two had another whole year to keep swimming together. Even being near Haru, he knew he wouldn't get much of a chance to swim with him. He had other things to worry about now, and Makoto really didn't want to put any pressure on him by taking up his free time. He sighed, continuing to walk.
When he got to the pool, Makoto smiled as he gazed over and into the water. This would probably always be his favorite pool, though he really wouldn't miss having to clean it out all the time. He reminisced for a few moments before he looked up and realized he wasn't alone. There was a boy sitting on the other side of the pool against the fence. Makoto tilted his head to the side for a moment when he immediately noticed he was rubbing his knee. With his nurturing instinct being so strong, Makoto couldn't help but start walking over to him. "Hey there!" He called out from a couple yards away. He continued walking, and when he got a little closer, he spoke again. "Are you alright?" | @spartusetco | 580 words | yup. |

Even though he wouldn’t admit it to anyone, he missed being the water. The way it never felt the same from pool to pool, some warmer than others while others more on the cold side it all depending if the pool was indoor or outdoor. His thoughts drifted to the last hotel he was in, the indoor pool was amazing. It was large pool with landscaping around with statues even a waterfall. The smell of the chlorine coming into the room from the pool always made him smile. There was a deck on the room that over looked the pool and whirlpool, oh how he spent many hours out there when he wasn’t using the pool.
His thoughts were broken when he heard someone call out to him. Those amber eyes of his slowly looked towards where the voice had come from. Seeing a tall dark hair male there, maybe a senior at the school he thought. Being his first day here, he didn’t know anyone let alone much else about the school. ”Hello and yes I am fine. Just a habit.” Kai said, his voice carrying a bit of a British accent. Rubbing his knee wasn’t a habit but just something he did without thinking. An old injury from the car crash that gave his slight limp and the reason why he wasn’t in the pool at the moment… well one of the reasons…
Kai thought it would be a safe place to be, one where he could go un-noticed. One of the reasons why he chose this town to live in, he doubted anyone would have heard of him let alone recognizes him. He couldn’t handle all the questions that would come from being recognized. Slowly he stood up, brushing off any dirt that might be on his pants before he looked back over at the other male. ”Are you okay? You look a bit overwhelmed by something. He always had been good at reading people, having spent a good part of his time just watching others as they went about their daily lives.
He knew it wasn’t his place to ask but seeing how that question was given to him first, he didn’t feel wrong about asking it. The only thing that bothered him was that this other person wasn’t in the school uniform, maybe they changed before leaving the school… he wasn’t even sure that the other was a student. Then again, he had been out of touch with how things worked in a setting like this… having pretty much been homeschooled the last few years. ”I was just passing some time here because it was a quiet spot. If you need to use the pool or if a club does, I’ll leave.” Aki wasn’t good at dealing with crowds of people and hated being in the way. Besides the last thing he needed was someone to bother him about joining their club, he had enough of that for a day already.

How'd we drift so far away from where we left off yesterday?
I'm lonely like a castaway Even though to outside people it might have seemed unusual for Makoto to be asking a high schooler what was wrong, it wasn't that strange to him. It was his natural instinct to help others when they seemed down or in pain or if they just looked uncomfortable in general. After all, he was studying to become a swimming instructor just because he enjoyed helping children learn how to swim. Besides, with all of those reasons set aside, Makoto had only just graduated from Iwatobi High School. Hell, two of his best friends still went to the school. So really, there was no reason that this was unnatural. Sure, it was weird that he was back at a school that he no longer went to, but that was about the only strange part.
"Are you sure?" Makoto was still a little bit considered despite the kid telling him that he was fine. He just seemed like he might have been injured or something, and Makoto didn't want to over look it. His accent seemed a bit strange, and Makoto wondered if he was actually from here. Maybe he was a transfer student from somewhere else.
Makoto blinked, being caught off guard by his asking the same thing he had. He pulled himself together and gave the kid a friendly smile. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Just a lot on my mind. You could tell?" He wondered if this kid read minds even though that was obviously impossible.
Makoto shook his head quickly. "Oh, no, I don't need the pool. I don't even go here," he explained, not wanting to keep the kid from doing whatever it was he was doing here. "Well, anymore that is." He added in the last part when he realized how strange the first part might have sounded. "I used to be in the swim club here. I was the previous captain, actually, so I guess you could say I just came to reminisce. But, if I'm bothering you, I can leave." He kept the same smile on his face the entire time he spoke. | @spartusetco | 348 words | (: |

Growing up, he had pretty much been raised by people of different ages and had others forced on him by his father trying to get him to make friends. So someone older even by a few years asking if he was okay wasn’t out of the strange for him. When it came to the unusual, Aki was kind of a magnet for it. Then again, he really found studying the paranormal interesting so he was unusual himself. To him, there was no such thing as normal, it was one of those things no one could define or fit into some grouping known as normal. ”Yeah, I’m fine. Fit as a fiddle.” He wasn’t sure why people said they were fit as a fiddle. How could a musical instrument be healthily anyways?
Aki stood up putting his full weight on his left leg, showing that he was good. Unless he had to walk, the slight limp he had which would only bring the question back to the surface. A story he didn’t want to get into with a stranger. As he looked over at the brown hair male, he wondered why the other was concern for him that was something he wasn’t to use to. He remembered when he was a kid and had fallen, scrapping up both his hands and a knee. No one seemed to care when he came back home. They just sent him to bed without dinner for being clumsy.
Amber eyes had seen he caught the other off guard by asking the same question, wondering why that was. He brought a hand up and rubbed the back of his neck when he was smiled at. ”Yeah, it wasn’t eyes to see but there was a hint of it. I used to watch people around me a lot growing up. I picked up a few things from doing that.” There was a slight shrug of his shoulders, passing it off as nothing special that he could do. ’If you need someone to talk things out with, I can listen…” He offered, trying to be polite, but he wasn’t sure he was the right person for the job.
Aki was slightly taken back when the other admitted that he didn’t go here well at least not anymore. He wondered if it was normal for people to go back to schools that had moved on from. He just stood there listening as the other continued to go on. However when the Swim Club was brought up, he grew a little bit pale and his eyes had turned to the water… Aki had only been in one swim club before when he was growing up but nothing since he had turned twelve. ”You’re fine, I was just sitting here passing time. “ The restaurant didn’t need him for the day, so he wasn’t sure what to do with his time. And he wasn’t one to really go exploring unless there was a reason to.
”Does this school still have a swim club?” He asked wondering how much he would have to avoid this place down the road or if he would have to worry about anyone approaching him about it. Normally, he would have jump at the chance to do something with swimming but not so much so these days. ”I’m Aki by the way and if I am bothering you, I can leave.”

How'd we drift so far away from where we left off yesterday?
I'm lonely like a castaway There was a chance this boy still wasn't telling the full truth, but Makoto decided to drop it for now. He wasn't going to nag at him. If he wanted to say something, there was a chance he would open up sooner or later. It was just an odd place to find him. Maybe he was perfectly okay, and Makoto was just projecting his own inside emotions out to himself to make it feel like other's felt sad or hurt or other negative things as well. His brain was seriously off if that was the case, because all Makoto wanted was to keep the world smiling.
He smiled at him. "Thank you. I really appreciate that, but I wouldn't want to burden you with my problems." That just didn't seem right. "I'm sure it's something that will pass with time. I think I just need to see some of my friends." He probably sounded strange to him, but Makoto didn't really notice. He was just trying to be polite, and he did appreciate his interest in his emotions. The kid seemed to have a kind heart that was in a good place.
Makoto blinked a few times, almost as though he was caught off guard by his question. He was picking a swimming pool of all places to hang out at, so it wasn't surprising that he would ask. "Yeah, actually, it does." He smiled, bringing a finger up and nervously scratching his cheek. He didn't like to brag, but he figured he might as well say it. "I was actually the captain of it last year before I graduated." This time he was surprisingly able to keep down all of the nostalgia that came with saying such a thing. "Why? Are you interested in joining?" After they'd placed so well in nationals last year, it wasn't surprising that new people might be interested. "It's a great club. I had a lot of amazing times being on the team last year." He definitely recommended it for anyone who enjoyed swimming. | @spartusetco | 340 words | (: |
